After the renowned double-red Sea-Dweller ended production in 1977, it was replaced by all white text dials. While the movement and case remained unchanged, this raises the question of whether the double-red versions are worth nearly double the price of the Great White 1665. Despite differing views, the 1665 remains a personal favorite of ours, offering a slightly larger size than the slimmer 1680 while retaining its wearable design.
This particular 1665 is a beautiful example of the MK1 matte dial variant, with its creamy vanilla patina adding distinct character to its otherwise classic black appearance. This early dial variant is characterized, among others, by the non-serif printing of the word ‘ft’ & equally aligned first two lines of text. Carefully maintained by its previous owner, the piece is preserved in its period-correct original bezel, hands, dial & bracelet.
As one of the most coveted vintage Rolex Sea-Dwellers today, this timepiece provides a rare opportunity to acquire a discontinued model with a perfectly preserved MK1 dial in a full complete set. This is definitely a true vintage classic!
